Short history
The Oasis Foundation for Human Ecology was founded in 1994 and since is working in Targu Mures as a non-profit, nongovernmental organization. Since 1999 it has a branch in Brasov too. Our activities target a wide-range of the population and we work with every age group.
We promote and support community based and holistic solutions to human life problems in our community. Our team at the moment is made up by a director, an accountant, a secretary and also by a program coordinator. We put an effort in finding, training volunteers for our programs.
Between 1991-1993 we managed to organize our first ever project with the help of the Junior Chamber, which objectives were to perfect the assistance of the disabled, promoting the 'hospice movement', creating Romania's first toy library, aiding large families and the poor and the needy.
In 2003 was created the foundations present set-up.
Trough out the years the Oasis Foundation has worked together on different society building projects with the English „Mission Romania” since 1991 until the present day. Between 1991 and 2001 we have collaborated with „Jubilee Outreach Yorkshire” from England, between 1994-2001 with “Trias College”/ “Friese Poort College” from Holland. Starting from 1996 until 1999 we collaborated with „Oasis Romerswill” from Switzerland. The „Stichting Emmaus” organization from Holland has sent financial and other forms of aids for local organizations, institutions worth 150.000 lejs.
Since it has been founded, our organization has commenced and participated in several national and international projects. Between 1996 and 1999 we have been partners of the „Trias College” organization. As a part of this project, we have provided trainings and seminars for manager groups from Targu Mures, Brasov and Bucharest in Holland. With the help of „Children's Welfare Stamp” we have ran a rroma educational center beginning in 1997 un till 1999 in the Cold Valley.
The "From pencil to Internet" thought our children from primary school to be more eco-friendly starting from 1999 for two years. In this period help came from „Friese Poort College”, a partner financed by the MATRA committee. In 2001 the "Years for the elderly" program was started in cooperation with Targu-Mures Town Hall, "Carol Davila" Sanitary Postgraduate School and "Dimitrie Cantemir" Ecological Foundation, this program involved psychological assistance of lonely and elderly people. Un till 2006 it had more then 100 beneficiaries. Oasis distributes aid parcels and conducts monthly social visits to the elderly in need. Basic medical check-ups are conducted by medical nurse. Volunteers are needed to help with friendly visits to over 20 individuals monthly. Our Elderly Club was also initiated at this time. The members are widows or people left by their families who need company. We try to involve them in various activities to meet a great part of their social, spiritual, and cultural needs. This club is still running. Our main partner was the Targu-Mures Town Hall and also different organizations. We had 3 social workers on this project: Toth Alex, Szabó Csilla and Ciulea Carmen.
The OASIS Team has worked with the following teams: „Mission Romania” „Jubilee Outreach Yorkshire” from England, „Stichting Emmaus” from Holland and „Oasis Romerswil” from Switzerland. At the moment our organization has human resources and varied experience. Our goals are to sustain and maintain a physical, mental and social health of those in need. |
